Multiplane & A New Sketchbook!

Doing some multiplane work in Animation II! Really excited about it. It's fun to try to maneuver complex camera movements and everything. It feels pretty neat doing the things I've been gawking at for yeeeaaars. :) This is the progress of my paintings so far. The wires are on their own layer, as are those two buildings. Further ones will be as well. Might be adding a little bit of floaty ash here and there too, as this is sort of derived from Silent Hill.

And I got a new sketchbook! This guy is a bit of a beast, and a pricy one at that, but the quality is super good and I'm very excited to break it in. Working on Strange Musician concepts in it at the moment, actually! Some of which are actually going to be given out as rewards from the Kickstarter! :D

Speaking of the Kickstarter, it should be up within two weeks, so keep an eye out for that! :D

Hold your fire...

This little guy was a whole lot of fun. I think I'm getting a grasp of what I want to do in terms of line and color.

Please check out The Strange Musician! I am currently putting together a Kickstarter campaign, and will keep everyone posted on development with that!

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Strange Musician

Heyo! I have a project I’m working on, that is going to be catching a bit of steam pretty soon here. Feel free to check it out at http://www.thestrangemusician.tumblr.com

This is going to be an animated short of The Strange Musician, a fairytale by the Brothers Grimm.
If you could let people know about it, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!

Snowy Snowy

I'm doing some commission work at the moment, so I don't have much I can show! But this is a quick background I whipped up. It kind of looks like a land of snow cones... (I think I'm okay with that. Although it wasn't the intention. XD)

Backgrounds aren't really my thing, and I really need to improve with them. I feel like what I did for the letter animation wasn't bad, but I can definitely do better.

Here. Have a teeny tiny sprite. XD

Summer Jump

I think I'm really starting to get this style to work for me. I am really excited for where it's headed. I can't explain how amazing I feel about myself now that I'm not on Tumblr every single day of my life. Seriously...Feels good. I'm focusing on MY art, not other people's.

Character for a little Silent Hill story my friend and I are doing.

Letter - Rough Animation

Done for Animation II at CCAD.
We did this to play around with multi-layer backgrounds and the cutter module in Harmony.

(This was the first pass, if you're curious: http://bobbyfaselsketch.tumblr.com/post/12499174213/animation-homework-this-is-what-that-background )

I feel like I'm really starting to get the hang of animation. I learn so much with every assignment, and I get so excited. It takes a long time and a lot of work, but it feels so, so good when you get something tangible.
I'm trying to explore this style a bit more. I know there's a lot that I can do with it. But I don't only want to draw children. They work super well in it, right off the bat. I'm trying to figure out how to make adults work, without insanely stylizing them. I like the idea of the shapes being pretty obvious in children, but sort of fading as the kids grow up. Then, when you have an older character, you can /kind/ of see the original shape in them but it's not so obvious. (And then of course I can throw in a random character that is older AND has obvious shaping in them - to make them a little more obnoxious or make them appear more childlike).
Added some color and a texture.

So I was trying to draw someone who was slightly older, and it wound up looking like Lucas from Mother 3. Oops. Just changed some colors around, and there it was haha.

Storyboard Pro crashed on me and I lost a lot of my work. I was pretty sad.
I am not a girl... But she conveniently had the same exact expression I did. I really was not impressed. At all. >:I

You could use somethin' happy.

Just playing around with pushing proportions and shapes. I'm really starting to enjoy doing it!

For the longest time, all I wanted to do was really "serious" illustrations. A lot of my friends - Shy, Coey, Nick, Asher - draw more serious subject matter and in a more realistic style. I've always wanted to go down that route. I think I'm capable of it, but sometimes I just lack... Something. I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm good at this simple style, and I enjoy it. Not to mention, it really caters to just about everything I want to do - animation, children's books, video games, and so on.

Spriting!

When I was younger, I used to make video games in RPG Maker 2000 all the time. I thought it'd be fun to try out spriting again, so I made an old character of mine into one. :)

Pretty fun!

Time for a new start!

Starting up this blog again! I'm trying to avoid Tumblr (it's too much of a time-suck), but I still want to keep posting my art online as I work on it.
