Tumblr! And an update.

Ninten, from Mother.

I have been keeping a casual sketch blog over on Tumblr for some time now. I post there much more frequently than here. I find its interface a bit nicer and really enjoy the conversations I can have with viewers and other artists. Check it out!

Some warm-ups, doodled from Emperor's New Groove.

The semester is coming to a close in just a short five weeks. I am making headway on my short film - my story reel is nearly complete, and a good chunk of  concept work is being done at the moment. In January, I'll be flying into full production mode, and I couldn't be more excited.

Just a daily doodle.

I'm talking to a few people about potential internships, which is a very exciting thing. I am really in love with the idea of plunging into a true animation environment where I work with other talented people to make something great come to life.

Take care!

Anime North & The Strange Musician!

Korra, © Nickelodeon

I'm going to scout out AnimeNorth this weekend, pretty excited!
I don't have a table, but I'm really excited to check out the Artist Alley and see how it is. I am considering getting a table there next year with my boyfriend, so we'll see!

Unless I hear back from a wonderful opportunity, I'll be getting back to work on the Strange Musician very soon! I'm super excited. The past year has been very eventful for me, especially in terms of animation and learning my way through my own style. I'm pretty excited to say that I'm about to begin another pass on the designs I've done for the story thus far. I've really fleshed out the story itself and I can't wait to see those changes along with my stylistic ones be applied to the characters themselves. I should also have the Kickstarter up within the month, so that's exciting! I was planning on having it up quite some time ago, but I was having some issues with getting the video files as well as getting them edited together. I'll be able to get that taken care of shortly, though :)

Something new!

I've been playing around with this new style of painting lately, and I think i's working pretty well for me. Some spots of this got a little muddled, but overall I still really enjoy it. With this style, I basically sketch something out pretty quick and try not to get TOO concerned about anatomy and stuff, and then I go right into flatting and making sure I have interesting shapework.

That being said, I'm definitely learning where I need work. As always, hands and feet - those are proving to be mos challenging for me. The great thing is, I'm really learning to have fun with my work. I'm excited to begin really introducing color and pattern into what I do. I've loved them for forever - one of my favorite artists is Mary Blair, who was very well known for her use of pattern, color and shape. I'm not sure I can ever achieve Mary Blair status, but I can sure try!

This summer is going to be a great one for me. I have a lot planned, and it could go many different ways. Regardless of which road I go down, I'm sure to make work and progress.

Sacrier

Finished this one up! It was a commission for someone of their character in the game "Wakfu." This was definitely a fun one.

Between finals and various portfolio submissions, I am preeetty beat! I'm getting over a ridiculous cold, too. This semester is coming to a close (two weeks left!), and I am very excited for the summer. There are a few different directions it can go, but regardless of which I'm going to be working on some form of animation! I'm super excited about all of the possible projects, so I know I won't be disappointed if I get one over the other.

I need to head off to class! Working on texturing the 3D character I posted the other day. Take care, everyone!

New Layout!

And also, a new layout! Har har har. This is for what will be my thesis! Also using it in a little test animation, which you'll all see in time.

I am so excited for everything going on! Things at school are going fantastically. I'm taking an interactive design class, and we're creating a video game. I designed the character above, and my teammate Allison modeled it. She did a great job. It's so neat to see my characters in 3D!

She worked from this turnaround to build the model. It's a bit rough, since we had limited time, but I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out.

Will post with more updates soon! Including screenshots of the game in progress, as well as more recent animation work. Take care!

So many things to do!

I've been working on some commissions lately! I have a pretty big chunk to get through, but my customers are great :) It's funny doing this again. I used to work anime conventions - sell prints and do on-the-spot commissions at tables in the artist alleys. Haven't done that in a few years now, but it feels nice getting back to commission work. I always loved drawing other people's characters.

School has been going well! I'm so excited about where everything is going. I had to drop Layout and Timing - a pretty amazing class that gives you a whole slew of pointers on layout (background/general scene composition and flow), as well as actual timing out of key drawings. Unfortunately it was way too much for me to handle at the same time as a full animation class, as well as work. I am pretty sure I'm going to be switching over to part time at school in the fall, and I'm honestly very excited about it. The idea of staying two full years more is a little hard to think about, but ultimately it's for the best! It's two years that I will actually enjoy the frustration of school. Right now, I am just frustrated by the fact that I can never get all of my work done.
I have a friend from home coming over this weekend! Annie's been one of my best friends since I was in middle school, so she's always a great guest to have. We have that whole cheesy connection of really understanding each other. It's pretty amazing, not going to lie. I think it's really important that everyone has at least one of those people around.

I'm off to class! SCIENCE!

Quick update!

WIP of a little painting! This is just a small section of it. :)

Doodle-daddle of a web avatar for myself.

Some Mother fanart! I love these games. :)

I am up to quite a bit! Lots of school, work, and art! Currently wading waist-deep in some commissions, but they're a blast! Really excited to be doing these again, it's been so long!

Hope all is well with everyone - one day I won't fail at updating this blog!

It's been a while!

School is fully on now, so my apologies for the lack of posting! I'll try to get on every couple of weeks at least to throw an update in here. I update my Tumblr sometimes with sketchy things, so if you'd like to check it out, go on over here!

These are some sketches of what I'm thinking will be my final animation at CCAD! I'm pretty excited about where things are headed.

Working, working, working!

I`ve been hard at work on Strange Musician things! Working on some kinks with the video, and hoping to get that up as soon as possible! I'm so excited about everything. The new semester at CCAD  is about to start, and I think I have my schedule set up in a way that all of my classes will benefit this project! Above is a finished background concept - keyword concept. In the end they should be a bit neater than that, and hopefully a tad more compelling. I drew Jacob in for scale. This is my first time seeing what looks like a final shot of the film, so it's pretty exciting for me!

This is my friend Nick's character, Izzy (Check out Nick's gallery - he is AMAZING). I drew up a bunch of my friends' characters for fun yesterday. I had planned on doing them as little Christmas presents, but time issues worked against me! Anyway, you can view the rest of them over at my Tumblr, if you'd like.
